What is the main purpose of Latry?
Latry is intentionally designed to be a tiny and
focused SvxLink client available on both Android and iOS. Its primary goal is to do one
thing well: connect you to
SvxReflector and HAM TETRA talkgroups with a simple, reliable interface. It is not intended to be a
full replacement for a complete SvxLink node.
Is Latry really free? Does it contain ads?
Yes, Latry is completely free and contains
no advertisements whatsoever. If you see ads while using the app, they are likely
coming from adware installed on your device, not from Latry itself. The app will always remain
ad-free.
Will you add a dashboard or other advanced
features?
No. To keep the app simple and lightweight, I do not plan to
add complex features like a dashboard, talkgroup scanning, or server management. SvxLink itself does
not have a built-in dashboard, so such a feature is outside the scope of this client. Need more fancy
features? Consider using WhatsApp instead.
What are the minimum system requirements?
Latry requires Android 9.0 (Pie) or newer and
iOS 13.0 or newer. To
ensure the best performance, security, and stability, I do not plan to support older, outdated
operating systems. Keep note that the current Android version is 16 so please don't
ask for support on Android 8 or earlier.
Can the app run in the background?
Yes, background support is available on both platforms. This
allows the app
to continue running and maintain connections even when not in the foreground, ensuring you never
miss important communications.
Is the iOS version fully featured?
Yes! The iOS version includes all the same features as the
Android version, including SvxReflector connectivity, HAM TETRA support, high-quality Opus audio,
and background operation. Both versions are maintained with feature parity.
Is the app open source?
Yes! Latry is now open source and available on
GitHub under the GPLv3 license. As a hobby project with limited development time, community
contributions are especially welcome. You can view the source code, contribute to the project, or
build your own version at github.com/s1lviu/Latry.
Got a bug report or a feature request?
Latry is an open-source project that was originally built by a single developer. Its future now
relies entirely on community support. The official GitHub
repository is the central place for all contributions and discussions.
Since the original developer is no longer an active user of the app and cannot lead active
development, he now supports the project by reviewing and merging valid pull requests. Therefore,
the most direct and effective way to fix a bug or add a feature is to submit a Pull
Request. Your involvement is what keeps the project moving forward.
Don't have a strong technical background? You can still contribute. Modern AI coding assistants like
ChatGPT Codex, Claude Code or Gemini CLI can help you write the necessary code for your proposed fix or
feature, which can then be submitted for review. Don't forget to test your changes thoroughly before submitting a pull request.
